Disney

Seventy years after his first ride on Hawaii surf, Mickey Mouse is finally coming back to the islands. Disney’s plan for a Hawaii hotel complex is far from another Disneyland, both in distance and concept.

But Walt Disney Parks & Resorts’ first venture in the islands will add 830 hotel and vacation time-share rooms, a fantasy-laden water play area and an 18,000 square-foot spa to the rapidly expanding Ko Olina resort on West Oahu.

The complex is expected to be completed in 2011.

A detailed scale model of the complex was displayed at a news conference with Disney officials and Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann.

It’ll be the first such complex for Disney away from a theme park, combining a 350-room hotel with 480 vacation villas on one of Ko Olina’s four man-made lagoons, which already feature a Marriott hotel and timeshares, a luxury condominium project and wedding chapels.

“We plan to offer the opportunity for our guests to vacation in a completely new way, very different than they do at our theme park resorts, when they come here to Hawaii — to be surrounded, to discover Oahu, to discover the Hawaiian Islands,” said Disney resorts chairman Jay Rasulo.

The resort is expected to hire 1,000 “cast members,” Rasulo said. Many will come from Oahu’s relatively low-income Leeward Coast.

He noted that one of Walt Disney’s earliest films, “Hawaiian Holiday” of 1937, featured Mickey on a surfboard in the islands.

Disney has several themed resort hotels near Disneyland in California and Disney World in Florida, but has never built a hotel and time-share complex that will stand on its own. Hawaii has no full-scale amusement park.

Rasulo had said there were no plans to expand the resort into a theme park.

The timeshare units will be part of the 350,000-member family-oriented Disney Vacation Club, which has eight other resorts.

Mickey Mouse

Mickey Mouse is a comic animal cartoon character who has become an icon for The Walt Disney Company. Mickey Mouse was created in 1928 by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks[1] and voiced by Walt Disney. The Walt Disney Company celebrates his birth as November 18, 1928 upon the release of Steamboat Willie.[2] The anthropomorphic mouse has evolved from being simply a character in animated cartoons and comic strips to become one of the most recognizable symbols in the world.

The character has gone through some major changes through his existence. The first one happened with The Pointer in 1939, where he got more realistic eyes, skin colored face and pear-shaped body. In the 40′s, he changed once more in The Little Whirlwind, where he used his trademark pants for the last time in decades, lost his tail, got more realistic ears that changed with perspective and a different body anatomy. But this change would only last for a short period of time before returning to the one in The Pointer, with the exception of his pants. In his final cartoons in the 50′s, he also got eyebrows, which were removed in the more recent cartoons.

Superman

Superman is a fictional comic book superhero widely considered to be an American cultural icon. Created by American writer Jerry Siegel and Canadian-born artist Joe Shuster in 1932 while both were living in Cleveland, Ohio, and sold to Detective Comics, Inc. in 1938, the character first appeared in Action Comics #1 (June 30, 1938) and subsequently appeared in various radio serials, television programs, films, newspaper strips, and video games. With the success of his adventures, Superman helped to create the superhero genre and establish its primacy within the American comic book. The character’s appearance is distinctive and iconic: a red, blue and yellow costume, complete with cape, like a circus costume, with a stylized “S” shield on his chest.[5][6][7] This shield is now typically used across media to symbolize the character.[8]

The origin story of Superman relates that he was born Kal-El on the planet Krypton, before being rocketed to Earth as an infant by his scientist father Jor-El, moments before Krypton’s destruction. Discovered and adopted by a Kansas farmer and his wife, the child is raised as Clark Kent and imbued with a strong moral compass. Very early he started to display superhuman abilities, which upon reaching maturity he resolved to use for the benefit of humanity.

Barbie

Barbie is a best-selling fashion doll launched in 1959. The doll is produced by Mattel, Inc., and is a major source of revenue for the company. The American businesswoman Ruth Handler (1916-2002) is regarded as the creator of Barbie, and the doll’s design was inspired by a German doll called Bild Lilli.

Barbie has been an important part of the toy fashion doll market for nearly fifty years, and has been the subject of numerous controversies and lawsuits, often involving parody of the doll and her lifestyle. In recent years, Barbie has faced increasing competition from the Bratz range of dolls.

Captain Commando

Captain Commando was so feared by Nazis, they doubled the manpower in their seacoast garrisons, when they heard he was on the way. They’d have given anything to know he was really John Grayson, whom the world knew as a wimp. John’s's identity was so secret, even his son, Billy, didn’t know — tho not so secret he wouldn’t change clothes in front of a common seaman, if Billy was in danger of finding out.

But Billy figured it out anyway by the end of Cap’s introductory story, which appeared in MLJ’s Pep Comics #30 (August, 1942). Billy had put on a pint-sized military uniform and, with three friends who called themselves “The Boy Soldiers” (who would probably have called themselves “Commandos” if DC Comics hadn’t staked out a claim to that name the previous month) snuck aboard a ship taking Cap on a mission. Readers were encouraged to join The Young Soldiers of America, by filling out a form in the same issue.

Cap was created by writer S.M. Iger (Shark Brodie, Neon the Unknown) and artist Alex Blum (Sky Girl, Kaanga). The company didn’t have enough faith in Cap to put him on the cover (which featured The Shield, The Hangman and later, Archie; but he did get a regular slot in the Pep Comics back pages.

Lobo

Lobo was a hero people could look up to, and he had the comic all to himself. His series was set a full century in the past. Free from his duties as a Union soldier during the recent war, he headed West with his horse, Midnight (whom he’d bought for a sack of flour), looking for a life without killing.

Instead, he walked in on the aftermath of a robbery and murder, and was framed for the crime. From then on, he had difficulty making friends, especially among law enforcement people. The name “Lobo” came from his accusers calling him a lobo, or lone wolf. He decided that was appropriate and adopted it as his name. Before that, he hadn’t been called anything at all.

The story was written by Don Arneson (Super Heroes) and drawn by Tony Tallarico (Son of Vulcan). In a later interview, Tallarico said he’d created the character in 1964, then approached Arneson, a Dell writer, as go-between to sell it to Dell president Helen Meyer. Meyer went for it, then Arneson wrote the script from Tallarico’s plot and Tallarico drew it.

Batman Beyond

While expecting the arrival of the dark knight.I suddenly found that big bats animated series started to strike minds of my class mates. Its not wat u think the legendary batman animation series…its batmans return in future r batman beyond which is officially called. The story is about the big bat getting old and decides to quit “never again”. Then found a new kid who could bring nightmares in criminals dreams which he did in his old days. Then the duo work together then on.

This series raised some questions???? one is that old bats quiting not clearly mentioned. Then the new outfit , fail to match the class of old batty outfit.

Anyway this new venture of batty is in the minds of warner bros.if iam correct this sequel might hit the theatre as a film.As per the warner bros source this film is under development. If it happens, lots of questions will be raised. One is whether it will be the continuation of the recently released films, if so thn there is no need for this batman original…..they could have started with the “batman of the future project” itself……
