Anil Kapoor

Slumdog Millionare, a Hollywood production starring Anil Kapoor and Irrfan Khan, directed by Danny Boyle of Trainspotting fame is being touted as a possible contender for the Oscars next year. The film is based Indian diplomat Vikas Swarup’s novel Q & A.

The movie has already won the people’s choice awards at the Toronto Film Festival.

Made with a modest budget of 15 million dollars, the film tells the gritty story of a slum dweller, who wins a TV game show – an indian version of Who Wants to be a Millionaire.

Actor Anil Kapoor plays the TV show’s host and Dev Patel essays the role of the slum dweller. The movie also stars Irrfan Khan.

Slumdog Millionare hits the screens internationally today.

Sivakumar

Sivakumar is a popular Tamil film actor. He is the father of actor Surya. He was born on April 26, 1939. He is well known for his artistic skills.

Jothika

Jyothika Sadanah Saravanan ( ஜோதிகா சாதானா சரவணன் ) is a Tamil actress who has acted in the Tamil and some Telugu films. She is widely popular in Kollywood.

Her first movie was the Hindi film Doli Saja Ke Rakhna, directed by Priyadarshan, opposite Akshaye Khanna. Though the film did not do well at the box office, she was noticed by the Tamil industry. She proceeded to act in Kollywood, where she debuted in a guest appearance in Vaali. Jyothika won the Filmfare Award for the Best Newcomer for this film. Her first Tamil movie as a heroine was Poovellam Kettuppar with Surya. A string of successful movies followed, among them Kushi,for which she won the Filmfare award for the Best Actress, Tenali and Dumm Dumm Dumm. In 2003 she starred in Dhool with Vikram, in Kaaka Kaaka with Surya and in Thirumalai with Vijay. In 2004, she acted in a double role for Perazhagan and received the Dinakaran Best Actress Award and TheFilmfare award and the Tamil Nadu State Award for it.Her biggest success to-date is Chandramukhi, with Rajnikanth, where she played a lady suffering from Multiple Personality Disorder. Jyotika was lauded for her performance in the role by many eminent personalities.She won the Tamil Nadu State award yet again, for this movie. Her performances in movies like Vettayadu Vilayadu,(with Kamal Hassan, with whom she paired up again after Tenali) Sillunu oru Kadhal, were also applauded equally well.Jyotika’s best came in Radha Mohan’s Mozhi, where she played a deaf and mute girl and Gautham Menon’s Pachakkili Muthuchiram , where she essayed a negative role for the first time. Mozhi was one of the hugest hits of 2007, and Jyotika was praised high for her excellent portrayal of Archana.Thus Jyothika left the filed of arc lights leaving a lasting impact.Simran and Jyotika are considered as one of the brightest and most succesfull actresses in the history of Tamil Cinema. She was also the Brand Ambassador for RMKV, the famous wardrobe hub in Chennai. It was reported that her inception had increased the market value of the store. At a given point of time, “Entha Colour”, the caption for one of the advertisement, were the buzz words among chennai-ites.

Cheran

Cheran is a Tamil film director and actor, who has a reputation for directing and producing culturally strong films. His movies are characterised by their realism and the strong social messages that they convey. He has won the National Award thrice, one for Vetri Kodi Kattu (which won Best Film of 2000 dealing with social issues)and one for Most Entertaining Film in 2004 (for Autograph) and one for “Thavamai Thavamirundhu” (2005) grabbed the national award for best film on Family Welfare.

Cheran began his career as an assistant to K.S. Ravikumar. The young man caught the attention of the film producer, Henry. Henry was the producer of the Malayalam film ‘Yavanika’ directed by K.G. George. Consequent to the success of that movie,he made his entry into Tamil Cinema with ‘Kolangal’, a subject based on a girl rescued from the red light area in Mumbai who faces social problems back home in Chennai. Henry insisted that the film should not only be commercial but also have a strong social theme.

Prabhas Raju Uppalapati

Prabhas Raju Uppalapati (born October 23, 1979), popularly known as Prabhas is a Tollywood actor and the nephew of Tollywood star and politician Krishnam Raju Uppalapati.

Prabhas’s early movies, Eeshwar and Raghavendra, did not fare very well at the box office but he gained stardom with M.S. Raju‘s film, Varsham, opposite Trisha Krishnan, in 2004. After the success of Varsham, Adavi Ramudu and Chakram did not live up to the expectations of Prabhas’s fans. However in September 2005, he made a comeback with the phenomenal blockbuster, Chatrapathhi, opposite actress Shriya Saran. Chatrapati was followed by unsuccessful films such as Pournami, Yogi, and Munna. Munna also starred Illeana opposite him. Despite these unsuccessful ventures, he continues to have a large, loyal fan base among telugu people, especially among females and young men.

Mani Ratnam

Mani Ratnam (Tamil: மணி ரத்னம்) (born June 2, 1956 in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India) is a critically acclaimed South Indian film director, writer and producer.

Mani Ratnam was born as G. Subramaniam on June 2, 1956, in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India. After graduating with a degree in commerce from Madras University and an MBA from Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies, he embarked on a career as a management consultant before becoming a filmmaker. He got into film direction with the help of his late brother, film producer G. Venkateswaran. He is married to Suhasini. She is a National award winner for best actress, daughter of actor Chaaru Haasan, cousin of Anu Haasan and Shruthi Haasan and niece of Kamal Haasan.

Uday Kiran

Uday Kiran (born 1980) is an Indian Film Actor from the state of Andhra Pradesh. He has acted in the films of Telugu and Tamil.

Uday Kiran is a youthful and boyish actor of Tollywood. Udaykiran was born on June 26th,1980 in a Telugu Brahmin family. His father is V.V.K.Murthy, works at the Town’s airport & his mother Nirmala is a house wife. He has one older sister Sridevi, married and has two children. He attended local K.V.Picket school and Wesley college for his Education.

He joined the film industry in the year 2000 with no backing from any leading actors or producers, which is very uncommon in the current Indian Film Industry[citation needed]

He has primarily acted in the leading roles of many films of Telugu. Recently he started acting in the Tamil movies, with his first movie under the direction of the famous K. Balachander [1].

He received the Filmfare Best Actor Award (Telugu) for the year 2001 for the movie Nuvvu Nenu

Joseph Vijay Chandrasekhar

Joseph Vijay Chandrasekhar born on June 22, 1974 is a Tamil film actor and playback singer. He began his acting career doing minor, uncredited roles as a child artist, produced by his father S. A. Chandrasekhar. Today he is known for his pacy dance sequences and his acting style. He is referred to as Ilayathalapathy (transliterally meaning “Young General”), which is always used along with his name in film credits.He’s considered as New Superstar of Tamil Cinema .

He began his acting career doing minor, uncredited roles as a child artist in Kollywood. Today he is known for his pacy dance sequences and his acting style. He is referred to as Ilaya Thalapathy, which is also always used along with his name in credits due to pressure from his father.

Vijay also sang several ghaana songs in his own films. He has also lent his voice for songs for other actors, which were films produced by S. A. Chandrasekhar. Vijay’s songs are often of ghaana-style folk beat type. The last song Vijay sang was Vaadi Vaadi from Sachien in 2005.

Nagesh

Nagesh (b. Gunddu Rao on September 27, 1933) is a veteran Indian comedian actor in Kollywood. Even today the name evokes a mixed response in the minds of Tamil filmgoers, not just as a comedian who had them rolling in the aisles, but also as a character artiste who moved them to tears with his sensitive performance in films like Neer Kumizhi, Yarukkaga Azhuthan” and Edhir Neechal.

Nagesh is a self-taught man who believes that an actor can learn from watching life and its characters. He often sat in his car in busy roadsides and watched the people on the streets to grasp the mannerisms of people that he would later reproduce on screen.On the personal side Nagesh was one of the few comedians to have acted with both MGR and Sivaji and he has prudently invested his money in real estate. Later on, he had a fall out with MGR and it led to his removal from many films. He became an alcoholic and began to slide down in his career. Nagesh theatre owned by him in Chennai was on the verge of getting seized for non-payment of dues but he met MGR and was bailed out.

Nadiya

Nadiya Moidu is a Malayalam and Tamil film actress who made her Tamil movie debut as a supporting role in Poove Poochudavaa during the 1980s with Padmini. Her debut movie in Malayalam Nokketha Doorathu Kannum Nattu, alongside Mohanlal and Padmini was a big hit. She currently acts in supporting roles.

She has acted many tamil movies. She is been a beautiful actress. Still she looks very cute and young.
